Where to produce? Comparing manufacturing options

There is no manufacturing option that is right for everyone, only one that fits your stage, your budget and the nature of your product.

Common options

• A local workshop: easy communication, quick visits and faster samples, usually small quantities, at a higher cost per piece.
• A factory abroad: a lower cost per piece with larger quantities, but with shipping, duties, longer lead times and harder communication.
• A sourcing agent: shortens your search and follow up in return for a commission, which makes choosing carefully more important.

Comparison criteria

1. The minimum order quantity (MOQ) per design and per color.
2. Lead time from approving the sample to shipping.
3. Quality level on products similar to yours.
4. Ease of communication, language and responsiveness.
5. The total cost, not the price per piece alone.

Make a comparison table between at least two options for your hero piece, using the five criteria, and write which one you prefer and why.
